Juknokwon — A Walk Through the Bamboo Forest
A dense bamboo grove of about 310,000 square meters, the signature attraction of Jeollanam-do's Damyang. Eight walking trails wind through it, filled endlessly with the sound of leaves rustling in the wind.
Season by season
- 🌸 Spring — bamboo shoots emerge and the grove's green turns deepest. April–May is the peak.
- ☀️ Summer — bamboo shade stays cool even at midday, making it a fine summer retreat.
- 🍁 Autumn — the bamboo's green contrasts with autumn colors on the nearby metasequoia road.
- ❄️ Winter — snow over the bamboo. Green and white snow create an unusual scene.
Highlights
- Bamboo trails — eight paths including Unsudaetong-gil and Jukmagou-gil.
- Viewpoints and pavilions — resting spots overlooking the grove.
- Lee Lee-nam Art Center — a media-art space within the bamboo.
Nearby
The metasequoia-lined road, the Joseon-era private garden Soswaewon, and the Gwanbangjerim forest are all close. As a Slow City, Damyang suits an unhurried trip.
Photo tips
The bamboo green stays vivid even on cloudy days. The most striking moment is when sunlight beams down between the trails.
