Taebaek is a highland city at 700m above sea level in southern Gangwon. Cool even at the height of summer, it's an ideal heat escape — with sunflower fields, year-round K-drama filming sites, and spicy mul-dakgalbi, it brings nature, Hallyu, and food together in one place.
Wind turbines along a ~1,300m ridge plus summer highland cabbage fields. A famous spot for sunrise and a sea of clouds — green cabbage fields and white turbines make the signature summer scene.
At the foot of Mt. Daedeok, a gentle 30-minute walk from the parking lot leads to the spring where the Han River begins. (Hwangji Pond, the source of the Nakdong River, is also in Taebaek.)
At 855m, the highest-altitude station in the country — pure highland-railway mood.
