June is a magical time for travel in Korea. While the spring flowers of May have faded, the new foliage is at its densest, and you can enjoy just four weeks of refreshing early summer before the July monsoon begins. If you miss this short golden period, the next opportunity will be three months later. If foreign travelers want to experience Korea's true summer, the first to third weeks of June are the answer.
All 10 places below share the common characteristic of being at their peak before the start of the monsoon season (late June to mid-July).
In Jeogu Village, Geoje, Gyeongsangnam-do, throughout June, 10,000 hydrangeas bloom all at once. The sight of the entire village alley becoming a purple-pink gradient goes viral on Instagram every year. The peak is mid-June.
The green tea leaves of Boseong Tea Plantation are the deepest green in June. At misty dawn, the scenery resembles an Oriental painting. Even the green tea ice cream is freshest during this period.
June is the climax of Korea's camping season. Once the monsoon starts, tents become useless. Anmyeondo is a rare place where you can enjoy both pine forests and beaches simultaneously.
Gangneung's East Sea is clearest before the July rains begin. Sunrise time 5:10 AM, arrival at 4 AM recommended. The cafe street operates from 8 AM.
Korea's largest rose festival, where 1,004 varieties of roses gather in one place. Held annually from late May to early June. With added night lighting, it's the number one dating spot.
Where the Bukhangang and Namhangang rivers meet. In June, at dawn, river mist rises, making it a popular spot where photographers line up. A 400-year-old zelkova tree is its symbol.

Udo is even more pristine than Jeju Island itself. In June, the sea water is not cold and the sun is not too strong – a golden ratio. Geommeolle Beach and Hagosudong Beach are a must.

When June's magic ends, July-August calls for indoor attractions, valleys, or overseas getaways. The next season is September's autumn leaves and October's autumn peak. In between, cool cafe tours, museums, and art galleries are alternatives.
